Indore-Ujjain Highway to be Expanded to Six Lanes at a Cost of 988 Crore

The Indore-Ujjain highway is set to undergo a major upgrade to a six-lane road, an initiative driven by the increasing traffic pressures anticipated during the Simhastha 2028 festival. The Public Works Department (PWD) has outlined this plan, which was presented to Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh on Thursday afternoon.

Action Plan and Approval

Minister Singh reviewed the PWD's detailed action plan and promptly instructed the department to proceed with the six-lane expansion of the State Highway-59, which connects Indore and Ujjain. Emphasizing the need for swift action, Singh stated that once financial approval is secured, the plan will be submitted to the cabinet. He urged all necessary preparations be completed promptly to ensure a smooth execution of the project.

Project Specifications

Under the proposed plan, the highway expansion will cover approximately 48 kilometers, starting from the Aurobindo Medical College gate in Indore and extending to the Hariphatak intersection in Ujjain. In addition to the six-lane road, the project includes the construction of a service road, two large bridges, and a flyover within Ujjain city. The total estimated cost of the project is around ₹988 crore.

The meeting, which took place on Thursday, saw the participation of key officials, including Principal Secretary DP Ahuja and Road Development Corporation MD Avinash Lavania, among others.
